EXTRACTION AND EVALUATION OF TOTAL POLYPHENOL CONTENT, FLAVONOID CONTENT, AND ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY OF STRUCHIUM SPARGANOPHORUM (L.) KUNTZE LEAF EXTRACT
Tóm tắt
This study investigated and developed an ultrasound-assisted extraction process for obtaining extracts from the leaves of Struchium sparganophorum (L.) Kuntze, a medicinal plant widely distributed in Mekong Delta. The best extraction conditions were determined as a solid-to-solvent ratio of 1:40 (w/v), ethanol concentration of 90%, under an extraction time of 30 min with ultrasonic power of 60 W. The obtained extract was evaluated for total polyphenol content (TPC), total flavonoid content (TFC), and antioxidant activity using the DPPH free radical scavenging assay. The results showed that the TPC and TFC of the extract were 71.78 ± 1.75 mg GAE/g and 31.90 ± 0.25 mg QE/g, respectively. In addition, the extract exhibited antioxidant activity with an IC50 value of 76.69 µg/mL. These findings indicate that Struchium sparganophorum (L.) Kuntze leaf extract is a rich source of phenolic and flavonoid compounds with antioxidant activity, providing a scientific basis for its further application in pharmaceutical products, biomedical materials, and other natural product developments.
